Sophomore Ashley Diedrich
As they did at Boone last weekend, Flag Football scored two quick touchdowns and relied on its defense to seal the victory as they defeated Flagler Palm Coast, 14-6, to advance to Friday’s State Tournament in Boca Raton. In the first quarter, the defense forced an FPC punt and the offense wasted little time in capitalizing. Hannah Schaible connected with sophomore Ashley Diedrich for a 25-yard touchdown to put DP up 7-0. In the second quarter, Schaible’s three-yard scoring pass to Shayna Elkin pushed the lead to 14-0 and that was all the defense would need. DP (16-0) has not allowed more than seven points in a single game this season and that streak continued last night. A third quarter interception by Andrea Cummings and another by Ashley Diedrich on a fourth quarter extra point attempt closed the door for good. The Panthers will now head down to Boca Raton tomorrow night before their game with undefeated Jacksonville Mandarin Friday at 8:30. Should they win, they will face the winner of Seminole Ridge – Boynton Beach Saturday morning at 11:00 AM in the State Semifinals. The championship game would be played Saturday at 7:00 PM. All games will be held at Boca Raton High School and admission for each game is $7.00.
